How to create and
secure User Accounts
Creating and assigning
different users with different access rights on same computer is a wonderful
tool in Windows. With User Accounts, you don’t need to ask someone not to view
or use your computer, simply because you don’t want your files viewed by
everyone. The Windows User Account tool makes it easy to create several
accounts on a single computer, giving priority to each as defined by the
administrator. The administrator could be the real owner of the computer, who has
the right to create, delete and edit other accounts. As an administrator, you
can choose who or which of the accounts should perform the full rights as an
administrator (you the owner). If you have not seen someone reading your
private files before, then prepare for such things if you can’t secure your
computer, simply by creating other accounts and securing either each or yours
with a password. Let’s take for example. If you use the same computer with your
wife and children, there is possibility that your files are more important than
your children can just get into them anytime they want right? Of course but
well people shouldn't use same computer private issues, but if it so then i
will help you secure your accounts, both children wife and yours. Your name is
Renard, your wife’s name is Nancy and one child Daniel. Simply create multiple
accounts for all the three names, as in respect to who owns the names.
You should be the
administrator to perform this task you remember that? Well you have to also
remember no account has been created yet, so the first account to be created
will automatically be the administrator, so create yours first.
Click Control Panel
from start menu.
Click User Accounts
from the following page. By this time there should be no accounts created than
the Guest Account which is created by the system.
Click Create a new
account just a little above the Guest Account.
Type in your name,
Renard (administrator remember?). You should be given only the administrator
option so far, so click next till it disappears. You should see the name Renard
appear beside the Guest Account. You might not be able to distinguish if you’re
the administrator, but rest assured you are.
Now that you succeeded
in creating an account bearing your name, and as the administrator you can
decide whether or not to create other accounts, but since your reason for
reading this article is to be able to create several accounts, i should tell
you what to do anyway.
From the User
Accounts current page, click creates account then type name Nancy, your wife.
You are given two choices to choose if Nancy should run as an Administrator or
Limited account. Choose limited since you have to be the only administrator.
Go through the same
procedure and create the third account Daniel, your son, assigning it as
Limited account.
Now the three
accounts are created and you should clearly see them, but the problem is that
each of them can be viewed by everyone, including yours, reasons being that
they are not password secured. You now have to create a password for each of
them to make a more solid privacy. Your wife and son shouldn't know your
administrative password anyway, but you can ask them to either type or give you
their desired passwords. If they wish that you know their passwords, fine but
you shouldn't wish that the administrative password is known, for several
reasons you will surely understand on your own.
Now let’s see how
easy accounts could be password protected.
Click Change an
account from the User Account page.
Choose the account to
make changes to, by clicking.
Choose Insert
Password from the menu with many options, including changing names and
pictures.
Type and confirm the
password in the provided spaces. If you like to ad a hint to your password,
then you can type into the third box the hint. For example, if your password is
Renard2013 then you can add hint 2013 or Renard, to help you remember what
follows, but you can leave it out if not necessary. All the three accounts are
created and can be viewed by pressing Windows logo and L at once. Clicking on
each account should demand for a password.
How to remove password
Go through the same procedure
as you created the account.
Choose change an
account from above accounts available.
Click the account to
remove password from.
Click “Remove my
password”
You are done! Good
Luck.
